HOT...More sensational Bible discoveries unknown to most Churchmen.  Good-news!  Fundamentalism is demolished and the Bible is rescued from Fundamentalism!

The Bible study proceedure known as the Documentary Hypothesis identifies the authors of portions of scripture.  For example, there are, in the book called Genesis, two very contradictory creation stories.  One creation story, the earliest, starting at Gen.2:4, uses YHVH (Jehovah) as the word for God.  So we call this writer, the J writer, or just J for short.  And J writes with a very recognizable style.  In J's creation story, Jehovah walks about in the garden, very much like a man (anthropromorphic).  One sees, hears, and converses with this God.   J's God created the garden in a very dry place, so that nothing can grow unless there is a man to till the ground.  But the man is lonely.  So then Jehovah creates all the other creatures.  But still the man is lonely, so lastly Jehovah creates woman.  J, (probably a woman of Soloman's harem), is ranked by scholars as very great writer, equal to Homer, and writing about the same time period--900 B.C. or so.

The other creation story, of about 500 B.C. is intentionally very contradictory. It's writer, almost certainly is Ezra, editing a combined collection of earlier writings. As editor, R, (Ezra), gets to write the introduction to the whole. His introduction is the creation story starting at Genesis 1:1.   And at this point, his word for God is Elohim.  Not until Moses, he tells us, does the word for God become YHVH.  While initially he uses Elohim as the word for God, Ezra should not be confused with the other writer who uses Elohim as the word for God and is known as E.   E, writing some 100 years later than J, is a northerner, of the 10 northern (non-Jewish) Israelic tribes, venerating northern shrines and heroes such as Joshua.    J and Ezra are of the southern tribe Judah, and instead honor southern places such as Beersheba and the southern hero, Moses.  It is now known that the northern tribes occupied the north some two and a half centuries before Moses and the Judah tribe came invading the south.  Israel and Judah never did get along very well.  The North (and E, some 300 years earlier than Ezra) cannot protest what Ezra has, after their time, done to the scriptures.  The ten northern tribes are long gone, having been deported by Assyria some 200 years earlier.  Ezra (and David) tried to force a "12 tribes" unity that never voluntarily existed.

In Ezra's very different creation story, beginning at Gen.1:1 the creation sequence is quite different from J's earlier creation story (beginning at Gen.2:4).  This god (Ezra's) begins with a very watery chaos, not a dry place.  This time, all the creatures come first and man last.  Man and woman seem to appear simultaneously.  And if this God ever is seen, it is only in a dream.  Evidently Ezra already by 500 B.C. couldn't sell J's story to his people of Babylon.  Too crude, they just wouln't buy it.  So, like it or not, he had to come up with a better version.  Needing no divine inspiration at all.  Most anyone could, and several early cultures did, come up with something similar.  So Ezra very intentionally contradicts J.  He HAD to.

But it isn't only Ezra contradicting J.   ALL the writers of the Old Testament LAW, (the first 5 books, plus also, the 6th book, Joshua) deliberately contradict what had gone before.  The very purpose they had in writing is nothing other than to specifically contradict.  In the Law section, there is nothing BUT contradiction!  Every bit of all of it is contradiction! E's very purpose is to reverence the north, contrary to J's exalting the south.  P, the priestly writer (who provides more verses than any other), writes to reestablish southern dominance.  As does R, (Redactor=Ezra). (Some scholars claim there are more than one redactors, but there is no doubt Ezra is the main one, doing nearly all of the editing.)

Therefore, it is absurd for Fundamentalists to be trying to make all O.T. infallibly say the same thing.  It is absurd for Fundamentalists to quote chapter and verse to declare this is the absolute last word how it is, when every other writer of the same book purposely contradicts!   Fundamentalism (Bibleolitry) collapses completely.  And a far better and more useful Bible emerges.  The Fundamentalist's great mistake is to take Ezra's stuff at face value, just as Ezra intended.  It isn't "God's Word"---it is Ezra's word, making a sap of those who take it at face value.  In effect, what Ezra is saying, is: You, (sap), must believe and do just as I, Ezra the head Jew, command, because I, Ezra, got it from the Moses I created, and the Moses I created got it from the YHVH god I created (in Ezra's image). Fundamentalists are far more Jew than Christian.  Forgive them: They just don't know any better!
