NOTE...Apocalypse talk is contrary to the teachings of the real Jesus and should be neither desired nor expected.

By the time THIS Apocalypse John (not Apostle John) writes, nearly all the original disciples were dead and they never got this message.  Why?   Why was it the original Word had no such Revelation?  It is because this is not the historic Jesus, (who may actually have been still alive in Kashmir) who is speaking.  Instead this is mostly Paul's "Christ". The John writing the "Revelation" TELLS us up front (Rev.1:10) that it isn't real--it's only a writer's dream.

Instead of trying to uncode the mysterious mumbo-jumbo of this strange writing, let's resort to a better way!  Let's apply First Corinthians chapter 13 to it!  There is a BETTER way!!!

"Better than the gift of prophecy" "Better than speaking with angel's tongues" "Better than to understand all mystery and all knowledge"

Fundamentalist, please, reread AGAIN and TRY to comprehend!  Bibleolitry VooDoo is NOT commended in First Corinthians 13!  In your OWN language, there is a BETTER way!

"The Better Way" is Charity. If Christians would spend even half the time and effort they waste on trying to uncode it to say what they want it to say-- and spend time instead on practically improving the world, then we'd be getting real progress.

But for those who must persist on uncoding anyhow: here are the keys: The whole thing instantly becomes transparent for those who know that in New Testament Greek language, the word for messenger and the word for angel are the same word: angelos.  Whenever a Greek military officer wanted to send a message to another unit, he always sent an "angel" which was a soldier carrying a mesage. An angelos always was simply an ordinary human messanger.  The "angels" speaking to John are merely Old Testament passages.  John makes these messages into "angels".  But he doesn't accept their message the way it comes---he makes them say instead what John would like for the messages to have been.  He keeps adding them on to each other like beads on a string.  Until, to the unwary, he seems to have a unity of sorts.  With the actual original passages there is no such unity.  The sequence of John's "angel" messages is:

(a) Rev.1:4's seven churches are taken from Isaiah 11:2.

(b Rev.1:5's first born is derived from Psalm 89:27.

(c) Rev.1:6 equals Exodus 19:6 and Isaiah 61:6.

(d) Rev.1:7 is taken from Daniel 7:13 and Zecheriah 12:10.

(e) Rev.1-8 was Isaiah 9:6

(f) For Rev. 1:13 to 17, see Daniel 7:13, 10:5; 7:9; 10:6; Exodus 34:24; Isaiah 44:6. And on and on.

However, the bulk of his material has to do with J's Garden Of Eden story and the plagues of Moses.  He's not getting his message looking into the future, but instead looking into the past!  So isn't it true that we know as much or more about the future than he did?  He never foresaw our 20th century!
